Welcome to Sally
Introduction Teachers and students of the Aeneid VI prescription for this summer’s Latin GCSE may wish to make use of trial software we are currently developing. The software, called Sally, is freely available via the link below and presents the following support for users:
Latin text (in the top left quadrant) |
parsing and vocabulary (as in CSCP’s ‘Explore the story’ software) |
commentary (in the bottom left quadrant) |
choice of translation (in the top right quadrant) |
Latin text with audio, together with optional scansion (in the bottom right quadrant) |
syntactical parsing tester (as an option instead of audio in the bottom right quadrant). |

Feedback The software is very much a work in progress and will develop over the coming months. We would very much appreciate your feedback on issues such as the layout of the screen, the overall depth and style of the commentary, the usefulness of audio with scansion and so on. If there are other functions you would like to see included, do let us know. Please email any comments, positive or negative, to
Sally@CambridgeSCP.com.
Tips
| 1 | For detailed help on how to make the most of the support Sally provides, click the '?' icon at the top of the screen once Sally has launched. | | 2 | Sally expands to fill your browser window, so maximise the window by hitting F11 to display the text as clearly as possible. | | 3 | The commentary carries references to some grammar books and dictionaries, should you wish to investigate a point of language further. 'CLG' stands for 'Cambridge Latin Grammar', 'Kennedy's' for 'Kennedy's Revised Latin Primer' and 'OLD' for the 'Oxford Latin Dictionary'. | | 4 | The syntax tool has been developed to support university students studying Latin outside the UK. It is not expected to be of particular use to UK school students. |
