Salus
On August 5th a public sacrifice was held on the summit of the Quirinal hill, to ensure the future health of the Roman people. The temple of Salus - or health personified - seems to have suffered more than its share of natural disasters in Roman history. It was struck three times by lightning during the time of the Republic alone, and burned down entirely in the reign of the Emperor Claudius. The Romans continued to rebuild it, and it was still standing in Rome in the fourth century AD.
